Scuba Rangers

Scuba Rangers is the perfect way to introduce your child to the underwater world in a safe, fun and encouraging way! During any scuba diving activities at Thunder Country Diving safety always comes first. Scuba Rangers is not just a diving course, it involves skill building activities in which they learn about our environment, get more diving experience and have a fun time together.

Scuba Rangers programs can only be taught by specially trained instructors in a pool (or under confined water conditions in a protected area) up to a maximum depth of 4 meters (12 feet). During the Scuba Rangers sessions and club activities, safety always comes first; the instructor-student ratio is always respected, and sufficient medical resources are always close at hand. Scuba Rangers applies to children from ages 8 to 12. The summer Scuba Rangers Program runs from August 21-25th 2017, starting at 10am and goes till 1:00pm. The cost of the course is $250.00 and comes with snacks and beverages after the pool sessions. Children are required to bring a bathing suit, a towel and any gear they own and would like to use!

Marine-Life Specialty

The Marine-Life specialty offers Scuba Rangers an opportunity to learn about the critters that live in the oceans. Activities in the pool will connect the relationships that occur between animals, plants and their environment in the oceans.

Maze Ranger Specialty

Maze Ranger Specialty is designed to allow the Scuba Rangers to practice skills in a variety of different ways. Each station has specific skills that Rangers will perform to work on both spatial awareness and buoyancy while having fun.

Navigation Specialty

The Navigation Program will teach Scuba Rangers to navigate with a compass and how to apply natural navigation skills. Rangers will also learn to estimate distances, navigate different search patterns, find their way to different marking points, and be able to get back to the exit point at any time.

Night Dive Specialty

Prerequisite: Rangers must have attended two events prior to this activity, or a skills refresher to ensure they are comfortable in the water before participating in a night dive.
The Night Ranger Specialty gives the scuba Rangers the opportunity to practice their skills, play games and learn night diving skills in the pool.

Search and Recovery Specialty

The Search Ranger Specialty is designed to teach the Scuba Rangers the basic techniques used for locating objects underwater and safely bringing them to the surface. The skills taught in this session are applicable to both underwater and surface searches.

Photography Specialty

The Photography Ranger Specialty will give the Scuba Rangers the opportunity to learn the features and functions of a camera. These skills will be practiced underwater in the pool to help Rangers work on buoyancy and taking pictures.

Wreck Dive Specialty

(This one will cost a little bit more, cost to be determined)
Prerequisite: Rangers must have attended two events prior to this activity, or a skills refresher to ensure they are comfortable in the water before participating in a wreck dive.
In the wreck diving specialty course Scuba Rangers will learn where and how to get background information on wrecks, how to locate wrecks and how to prepare for a wreck dive. The Civics Ranger Specialty is designed to encourage the Scuba Rangers to help in their home and community. Each time the Scuba Rangers help their family, participate in community events, or simply clean their room (to their parent or guardians satisfaction) the individual they help signs off their Ranger Log. Once they have completed all 12 sign-off llocations they receive recognition and credit for the Civics Ranger Specialty.

Marine Ranger

This specialty offers Rangers an opportunity to learn about the animals (critters) that live in the ocean. This is normally a classroom based specialty; however, we will also make use of the pool as well. We will incorporate picture and items we may see in ocean to help us learn about these amazing critters.

Deep Ranger

The Deep Ranger specialty is designed to allow the children the opportunity to practice their skills, play games, and begin to experience the effects of being in deep water. We will work on proper skills for ascending and descending. As a ranger becomes more comfortable in deeper waters, they become better divers. This is a great self-esteem boost, as they grow closer to becoming Junior Open Water Divers.

Buddy Ranger

The Buddy Ranger Specialty enables the Scuba Ranger to invite friends to try their snorkeling and scuba skills in the pool. This is great time to encourage friends to take part in this wonderful sport. It will be run like an introductory course
